Unsealed lighters, such as Zippo lighters, are accepted as carry-on. They can only be packed in your checked luggage if sealed in an airtight container approved by the U.S. Department Of Transportation (D.O.T.)

Due to a U.S. Transportation Security Administration mandate, toner and ink cartridges over 16 ounces (453 grammes) are prohibited in carry-on and checked baggage.
