Immigration requirements

USA Immigration requirements differ depending on nationality of traveler for non US citizens travelling internationally on American Airlines. If passengers do not have a US passport, it will be a requirement to apply for a US immigration visa. Unless passengers hold a passport from one of the countries belonging to the visa exemption program called Visa Waiver Program (VWP).

Passengers are required to ensure that they are in possession of all documents necessary for travel, apart from their tickets. For international travel, passengers require to be in possession of valid passport, valid visa and/or entry permits and health certificates as required.

APIS requirements apply for all non-US residents.

American is required to collect additional APIS (Advanced Passenger Information System) data elements according to U.S. law. Under the APIS guidelines, passengers are required to provide Country of Residence detail in-addition to a full address (street name and number, city, state and zip code) for their first night's accommodation in the US. The required information applies to all non-resident customers arriving on flights into the United States.

Our aim at American Airlines is to make the process of collecting the required information as speedy and efficient as possible for our passengers, our reservations agents and our travel industry partners. We are currently working on systems enhancements, which will enable the necessary data to be collected from passengers at the time they make their reservation (either through a travel agency, AA reservations or via the Internet).
