Loyalty Points are the new way to reach AAdvantage® status. You’ll qualify for status based on the Loyalty Points posted to your account for the 12-month period starting on March 1 of each year. And, the new AAdvantage® status membership year is valid through March 31 of each year.
You’ll earn Loyalty Points as you earn eligible AAdvantage® miles whenever you fly, use an AAdvantage® credit card for purchases, or earn eligible miles with AAdvantage® partners. One eligible AAdvantage® mile equals one Loyalty Point.

The status qualification year starts on March 1 and runs through the last day of February of the following year.
AAdvantage® miles and Loyalty Points earned on posted purchases made with your AAdvantage® credit card will count based on the transaction date captured in the cardmember’s credit card account. AAdvantage® miles and Loyalty Points typically post to the applicable AAdvantage® account within 8 to 10 weeks. Keep in mind, Loyalty Points from credit card purchases that show a transaction date on or after March 1 count toward the new qualification year.
All other flight and partner transactions will count based on the activity date of the flight or other transaction.
As an example, if your monthly AAdvantage® credit card statement closes on March 5 (which includes purchases posted to your credit card account between February 6 and March 5), all the Loyalty Points earned from purchases made between February 6 through 29 will count toward 2024 status. All Loyalty Points earned between March 1 and 5 count toward the 2025 qualification year.
It may take up to 8 – 10 weeks after March 5 to post to your account, in this example.
