How to find and redeem your travel credit
We issue 3 types of travel credit: Flight Credit, Travel Vouchers and Trip Credit. Travel credit can be used to book flights only and is not valid for extras like seats or bags.

*Flight Credit issued for flights canceled due to COVID-19 can be used for travel through December 31, 2021.
We'll send you an email with the information you’ll need, including your ticket number. Keep this handy so you can refer to it when you rebook.
If you're an AAdvantage® member and had your account number listed in your reservation before cancellation, you can log into your account and view available Flight Credit in your wallet.
1. Find your canceled trip or confirmation email
- You'll need your 6-character confirmation (also called a ‘Record Locator’) and 13-digit ticket number.
- American tickets have a 13-digit number that begins with '001'.
Keep in mind there are separate ticket numbers for add-ons like seats, upgrades and bags.

2. Go to aa.com and choose ‘Manage trips / Check-in’
Choose ‘View canceled trips’ and enter your trip details.

3. Find your trip
You’ll see your Flight Credit details on the ‘Your trip’ page.

4. Rebook and add Flight Credit
Go to aa.com and find your new flight. On the payment screen, choose ‘Add Flight Credit.’

Enter the ticket number from your canceled trip and apply the credit.
You may use a credit card to pay any remaining balance.

If you need more help with rebooking, please call Reservations.
Travel Voucher

Issued in the form of
- Electronic vouchers – U.S. residents only
- Paper vouchers
Valid for
- Flights only
- Can't be used for extras like seats or bags

Who can use it
Can be used by the voucher holder to book travel for anyone
Expires
1 year from date issued
How to redeem
Electronic vouchers on aa.com, or either voucher type by calling Reservations
Electronic vouchers
We’ll send you an email with a link to your voucher. There, you’ll see its value, PIN and expiration date.
When you’re ready to book:
- Go to aa.com and choose your flights.
- On the payment page, choose ‘Other forms of payment.’
- Enter the Travel Voucher number and PIN.
You may use up to 8 Travel Vouchers at a time. If the total price of the ticket exceeds the value of your voucher(s), you may use a credit card for any remaining balance.

Paper vouchers
To pay for a flight with a paper voucher, please call Reservations.

Trip Credit

Issued for
Compensation by us, or for remaining value from a Flight Credit exchange
Valid for
- Flights only
- Can't be used for extras like seats or bags

Who can use it
Can be used by the credit holder to book travel for anyone
We'll send you an email with the information you’ll need, including your Trip Credit number. Keep this handy so you can refer to it when you call Reservations to book.
